Sandals Ochi Review: Our Honest Take After Four Nights
Is this lively, value-conscious Sandals resort right for your vacation?
We spent four nights at Sandals Ochi in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Here is what stood out, what could be better, and who we think will enjoy it most.
Our Sandals Ochi Verdict
Sandals Ochi offers a broad Sandals experience with an active atmosphere, many ways to spend the day, and room categories across different service levels. Its size and energy are part of the appeal, but they will not suit every couple.
Best For
Couples and groups who enjoy variety, entertainment, social energy, and a resort with many distinct areas.
Think Twice If
You want a compact, quiet resort, an expansive walkable beach, or a vacation centered primarily on high-end dining.
Our Overall Take
Strong service and abundant activity create real value for the right traveler. Matching expectations to the resort is essential.
One Resort, Two Distinct Experiences
We arrived through Montego Bay International Airport during the Juneteenth holiday weekend in June 2025. Sandals includes shared airport transfers, but we chose a private BMW transfer for greater comfort during the drive to Ocho Rios. Our driver had drinks and snacks ready, and the private ride made the journey more relaxing.
The resort stretches across a large property and is divided into two principal areas:
- The Hillside: Butler Village, villas, gardens, pools, and the spa.
- The Oceanside: Beachfront accommodations, waterfront areas, pools, dining, and the beach club.
Most guests use the resort shuttles to move between the two sides. In our butler-level accommodation, we also received a phone that made it easy to request golf-cart transportation around the property.
Our Room and Butler Experience
Our one-bedroom butler villa was located in the Butler Village and included a semi-private pool shared with several villas.
The Villa
The suite felt spacious, clean, and recently refreshed. Although the pool was shared, we had it to ourselves during our stay, which made the space feel surprisingly private.
The bed was very firm. When we mentioned it, our butler arranged a mattress pad that improved the comfort. Travelers sensitive to mattress firmness may want to request one early.
We also appreciated the stocked minibar and daily replenishment of beverages.
Butler Service
Two butlers rotated shifts so that assistance was consistently available. They helped with dining and excursion reservations, room service, transportation around the property, drinks, snacks, and pool arrangements.
Butler service is not essential for every guest, but it made navigating a resort of this size easier and added a meaningful layer of convenience. Butler-level rooms also include some of the resort's more distinctive accommodations.

Why Firsthand Experience Matters
Marketing photographs show what a resort looks like. A stay reveals how it feels to move around the property, how the room functions, how responsive the service is, and whether the atmosphere matches a particular traveler.
Our goal is not to label Sandals Ochi as universally good or bad. It is to help determine whether its strengths match what you want from this vacation.
Variety Was the Strength
Sandals Ochi offers a broad selection of restaurants and cuisines. During our stay, we did not have a bad meal, but we also did not have one that felt truly exceptional. Most dishes leaned mild, perhaps to appeal to a wide range of guests.
Travelers hoping for bolder Jamaican flavors may want to ask what can be adjusted. We enjoyed the Jerk Shack for a casual taste of local flavor and appreciated having many dining choices across the resort.
The Rabbit Hole was one of the most memorable evening venues. The hidden speakeasy uses a password for entry and combines live music, cocktails, and a lively retro atmosphere.
Pools, Beach, Activities, and More
The property offers many ways to shape the day, from active and social to quiet and restorative.
Pools and Beach
Pool environments range from energetic areas with music and swim-up bars to quieter places to relax. The beach is smaller than some travelers expect, so guests prioritizing a long, expansive beachfront may prefer another Sandals resort.
Activities and Entertainment
Tennis, pickleball, beach activities, dance lessons, parties, and evening entertainment contribute to an active and social atmosphere. Guests who enjoy a full schedule will have plenty of choices.
Red Lane Spa
Our 90-minute deep-tissue massage was relaxing and consistent with other resort and cruise-ship spa experiences. It met expectations without being a defining feature of the trip.
Wildlife and Grounds
Cats and mongooses are common around the property. The mongooses were shy and kept their distance. The cats were more social, especially when food was nearby.
Destination Weddings
We toured several wedding locations, including beachfront and garden settings. The range of venues and experienced wedding team make the resort worth considering for destination celebrations.
Resort Scale
The large footprint creates variety but also requires transportation between areas. Guests should consider mobility, preferred pace, and tolerance for shuttles when selecting a room location.
Is Sandals Ochi Right for You?
It May Be a Strong Fit If You Want
- A lively Sandals experience with social energy and nightlife
- Many pools, dining choices, and daily activities
- Options suitable for couples, friend groups, or a destination wedding
- A broad resort experience where value matters alongside quality
Another Sandals May Fit Better If You Want
- A quiet, intimate, or easily walkable resort
- A long, expansive beach as the center of the vacation
- A consistently elevated culinary experience as the highest priority
- Minimal reliance on shuttles or golf carts during the stay
Would We Return?
We would consider returning, but our personal travel style would probably lead us toward a quieter Sandals resort next time. That does not diminish what Sandals Ochi does well. Strong service, plentiful activities, multiple resort environments, and a lively atmosphere can create excellent value for couples who want those specific qualities.
The right conclusion is not that Sandals Ochi is right or wrong. It is that the resort should be matched carefully to the traveler.
